Perry County VINELink Coverage
VINELink Alabama is a custody-status and notification path. It lists Alabama VINE phone number 1-877-846-3425. Alabama VNS is a separate state notification website for ADOC-sentenced offenders. The VNS page says it is only for offenders convicted in Alabama and sentenced to prison in ADOC custody, and it tells users with cases not yet tried to contact the sheriff in the county where the crime occurred.
That limit matters in Perry County because a local bond-out, time-served jail release, or dismissal release may never be an ADOC-sentenced VNS record. If a person was in the Perry County Jail or an out-of-county holding facility on a Perry County case, the sheriff, receiving jail, and Perry County court record remain the core sources. VINELink is a notification option to test, not a guaranteed Perry County release archive.
Use the custody path first. A person held before trial on a Perry County case is usually verified through the sheriff, the receiving jail if one was used, and the Circuit Clerk. A person sentenced to ADOC may be checked through ADOC while current, then through VNS, ABPP, parole results, and public-record requests after release. A federal or immigration transfer needs BOP, ICE, USMS, or federal court sources instead of Alabama VNS.
This is why VINELink should not be used as the first and only answer for a Perry County release. It can be very useful when a matching custody record exists, but the research did not verify an official Perry County online release feed. A person may also be held under a Perry County case in a different Alabama jail while repairs or placement arrangements affect the local facility. Register Perry Release Alerts
After finding the person, select the notification or get-notified option if the record supports it. VINELink workflows commonly ask the user to create or sign into an account, choose contact methods, confirm details, and complete a PIN or acknowledgment step for phone alerts. Keep the contact information current. A missed call or old email address can defeat the purpose of a custody-change notice.

For Alabama VNS, create or log in to a user account at victims.alabama.gov, register for the ADOC-sentenced person, and choose notification methods. The VNS page says the new system was released in March 2024 and prior users must register again. VNS support is Victims@AlabamaAG.gov and 800-626-7676.
Do not treat a notification setup as proof that the person is in or out of custody. It is a way to receive future status information where the system has a matching record. If the person cannot be found, the next step is not to assume release. Check name spelling, date of birth, offender ID, custody agency, and whether the person's case type belongs in the VNS system at all.
For ADOC-sentenced cases, the VNS account should be paired with ADOC and ABPP checks. ADOC's public search is current-only, while ABPP pages explain parole hearing schedules, results, and mandatory release coordination. If a VNS alert says a custody change occurred, save the date and then request the underlying release or supervision record from the correct custodian when a formal record is needed.
Perry VNS Scope Limits
Alabama has both VINELink and VNS, but VNS does not cover every Perry County release. A person who has not gone to trial, bonds out, receives a time-served local disposition, or is released by a receiving jail on a Perry County case may require sheriff and court records instead. A person sentenced to ADOC can move into ADOC, VNS, ABPP, or parole hearing channels.
Federal and immigration custody are outside Alabama VNS. Use BOP for federal prisoners and ICE ODLS for current immigration detention within its scope. If a Perry County jail record says "released to ICE" or "released to USMS," that release is a transfer from county custody, not the same as release to the community.
The Perry County jail closure adds one more limit. A person may have been held in another county jail even though the case remained a Perry County matter. VINELink may or may not show that record, depending on participating data and the exact custody source. Ask Perry County which facility had physical custody on the release date, then check that facility and the court docket.
VINELink also does not resolve registry-only questions. ALEA registry records can continue after release for registrable offenses, but a registry record is not a VINELink release notice and does not describe every released person. Keep registry checks, ADOC-sentenced alerts, county jail release records, and federal or immigration locators in their own lanes.
If a notification arrives, record the time, the stated agency, and the status wording. Then use that information to ask the custodian for the release entry, transfer notation, or court event. In Perry County, that may mean the sheriff, the receiving jail, the Circuit Clerk, ADOC, ABPP, BOP, or ICE. A saved alert can point to the right office, but the office record explains what the change legally meant.
For safety and accuracy, do not rely on one spelling of a name. VINELink, ADOC, court, and jail records may use middle names, suffixes, initials, or different booking spellings. An offender ID, AIS number, date of birth, or court case number is often more reliable than a broad name search.
